batik and woven fabrics now more popularly worn as everyday clothing. However, there are still many people who limit their use because the price is considered too expensive.

"Naturally, the traditional fabrics have a high price, because everything is made by hand and not machines," said Lucia Leburaya, Chairman Dekranasda (National Crafts Council Regional) East Nusa Tenggara some time ago in Jakarta.

According to Lucia, a pretty high price is more of an appreciation for the labors of his craft fabric, because the fabrics are made through a process of thought and creativity is long. In addition, the process of making and coloring very well determine the sale price. But how exactly is the process of making both types of fabric determines the price?

A. Batik
There are two types of batik based manufacturing techniques, namely batik and batik (a type of batik again, batik print , will not be discussed here). As is known, batik has a price that is much more expensive than the printed batik. This is because the manufacturing process that takes time and precision to paint each sheet of fabric with the night (candles) and canting.

Once painted, batik process has not been completed because they still have to go through stages of coloring and pelorodan candles. "In addition to the process of writing and seal, one of the determinants of the expensive batik is the process of coloring," said Endro, representatives from the Education Foundation, Michael D Ruslim Astra (YPA-MDR) to Compass Female , in a workshop at the Museum Batik Indonesia, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, some time ago.

Batik coloring process involving a lot of use of natural dyes and textiles. Usually to facilitate attachment of the color of the fabric used in a chemical solution naptol. Batik and then dipped into a solution of the desired color, then soaked in warm water and dried in the sun to dry.

Batik who have two to several kinds of colors in the fabric makes the price is expensive. Because to get a lot of color in a batik cloth, dyeing process must be performed many times. Once dyeing will result in one color, and covered with wax image will not stain. So when will give another color to the basic motif, this process must be repeated and started from scratch with a closing motif through the use of wax and color.

The process of dyeing batik fabric batik triplicate means it has three times the mbatik (covered with wax), three times the process of coloring cloth, and three times the pelorodan (remove wax from fabric).

2. Woven fabric
is a batik cloth If dyed, then woven strands of yarn is dyed and woven into fabric. Because, basically, is a thick tangle of yarn, woven fabric becomes stiff and thick, so many people are reluctant to wear them for everyday clothing.

"A lot of people who say that the price of weaving was too expensive, but is comparable to the process of creativity and a long manufacturing process. Not everyone can make a woven fabric, so natural that it was expensive," said Musa Widyatmodjo leading designers show her in Jakarta Fashion & Food Festival some time ago. To make a piece of woven cloth, usually takes many months.

The price of expensive fabric is not really applicable to all types of fabrics. Differences in price depending on the thickness and density of colored yarn fabrics are woven into the fabric. The closer the strokes of his (the density tenunnya), the fabric will be more meetings, more and more thick, and the price is more expensive.

Weave density is governed by the loom is used. The harder the weavers to use her loom, the thread will experience tremendous pressure (in -press s) so that it is getting tight. Conversely if the fabric is not too tight yarn, woven into a thin and transparent as tenuous thread.

"The difference in the comb tightly woven and loose is seen when washed. Cloth weaving comb gap will experience a considerable shrinkage than those who combed the meeting," said Ley Puspa Sandjaja, designer partners Betty Eddy at edbe clothing line.
